About this project
The goal of this series of data stories is to bring attention to the European Union's (EU) high-value datasets. It's not intended to visualise high-value datasets in their entirety — for instance, in the form of complex and deep interactive visualisations for experts and decision-makers to explore. Rather, this project tries to exemplify how high-value datasets could be used by journalists and other communicators to build narratives that combine text with visuals and highlight certain data from the high-value datasets for the general public to understand.
What are high-value datasets?
The EU's 2019 open data directive defines high-value datasets as 'documents held by a public sector body, the reuse of which is associated with important benefits for society, the environment and the economy'. To learn more about high-value datasets, visit this page.
Who produced this project?
The data stories are part of data.europa.eu , the official portal for European open data, an initiative of the European Commission. The portal is managed by the Publications Office of the European Union.
